Modeling as a child in commercials and children's catalogs, Julia grew up in front of the lens. At the age of 14 she was discovered by a talent scout and Julia booked her first job with a couture label, Tilla Lindig. Although Julia planned to study accounting after high school, she instead moved to Paris and pursued her career in modeling.

There in Paris Julia landed her first major magazine cover, Elle, and eventually signed with Supreme Management. Soon she appeard in the 2002 Yves Saint Laurent show. In 2003, she did Strenesse and Sportmax campaigns, among others.
